Community Updates
I have arrived in the park; this page will be used for any communications from the board. Please check my organizational page for community work effort.
1:37 PM – What I know
- Collier County still has a curfew
- Roads are getting cleared however they ask that you don’t drive unless necessary – they always say that
- People are getting back into the park – some are on their way.
- A lot of homes have had water damage, and a few have lost roofs.
- People are missing items because they did not properly store them, so they floated away
- You should check with your caretaker to find out the extent of your damage.
- The office computers are offline and will remain that way until I get there next Thursday.
Beginning Tonight at 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
- A mandatory curfew is in place for all of Collier County beginning at 10 p.m. tonight and expiring at 6 a.m. tomorrow Friday, September 30, 2022.
- The City of Naples will be mirroring the County curfew by observing the same times.
- The purpose of the curfew is to protect the safety of the citizens of Collier County and their property as they begin the process of recovering from the effects of Hurricane Ian.
- The curfew does not apply to emergency responders, employees at health care facilities, critical staff for businesses that provide essential services or those seeking medical assistance. Violation of the curfew is a second-degree misdemeanor.
- The Collier Information Hotline remains active 24-hours a day. Residents with questions may call the Hotline at (239) 252-8444 (within Collier County residents may dial 311).

- Garbage and recycling collection services will resume Friday, September 30 in unincorporated Collier County, the City of Marco Island and the City of Everglades. The Collier County Landfill, the Immokalee Transfer Station and the Recycling Drop-off Centers will open on Friday, September 30.

1:16 PM – Getting reports that older homes have water damage about 6 inches in their homes. The further you get from the clubhouse might be less. Refrigerators tipped over and furniture floated around the house. I understand the wind damage was not as bad as Irma however, several homes did sustain damage. Comparing this to Irma physical damage to homes was a lot less. Cell reception is limited, as soon as I get pictures / reports I will post them. If you have any, please text me at 574-300-2523.
9:50 AM – I have an older home, Mary Ward told me I had up to 6 inches of water inside, the refrigerator fell over and furniture floated all over the place. Since the water made it to Grouper there is a good chance older homes will also have water damage. The closer to the clubhouse the more likely you are to have water damage. Sue Vetter had her steps float across the driveway. So, you can imagine there will be lots of cleanup to do.
9:10 AM – I have contacts in the park – John Ford, Mary Ward, Curt and Penny Schellenberg. As soon as they are able to get information, I will pass it along. John informed me the water is receding.
Naples Fire-Rescue Department
- Effectively immediately, the City is issuing a Precautionary Boil Water Notice for its entire drinking water service area, which includes all of the City of Naples and a portion of the Collier County.
- The City’s drinking water service area extends south from Pine Ridge Road, and west of Livingston Road.
- The Precautionary Boil Water Notice is being issued out of an abundance of caution, as the City is currently experiencing system wide pressure issues.
- The City is unaware of any watermain breaks at this time, but will be conducting field assessments as soon as it is safe to do so.
- It is advised that all water used for drinking and cooking be brought to a rolling boil for one minute. Or, as an alternative, bottled water may be used.
- Water used for bathing and washing does not need to be boiled.
8:26 PM – Good NOAA website for water heights – HERE
6:35 PM – Haven’t had any updates in a while from the park. It looks like we are getting ready for the backend of the storm.
3:21 PM – Just got word that all low-lying homes are under water!
2:41 PM – All of the cameras I have access to are now down.
1:47 PM – Water all the way to Grouper – Clubhouse flooded – I’m getting reports of damage but have not confirmed it yet.
12 PM – Looks like Pat Gagnon lost her roof – winds are picking up – water is 1 foot over the seawall – Surge projected at 4 PM – power still on
7 AM – Rain and wind gust – water 2 feet below the sea wall – south gate actuator broke (tied down for now) – Power is still on
The Corporate and Residents Board are busy battening down the community in preparation for the worst.
Unfortunately, there is a lot of work being put on permanent residents having to address no caretakers and or movable objects being left out (See Rule 6.6 below).

Full Disclosure: I do not know how these boats were tied up!
Our rules state “do not use the PVC pipe”, perhaps the Boat Club need to bring someone in to talk about spring lines and how to tie up your boats… especially prior to a hurricane or leaving the park if you plan on leaving your boat in the water.
Text me any pictures and I will post them 574-300-2523.

Rule 6.6
- Absence from Park: All members absent from the park for four (4) nights or longer shall have a designated caretaker responsible for maintaining an acceptable exterior appearance of their home. The caretaker shall be listed on the member’s check-out card registered with the office. The caretaker’s duties would include as required: trimming of the plantings, weeding, sprinkler maintenance and house washing if necessary. If the caretaker work is not completed, the Corporation, at the member’s expense, with fourteen (14) days written notice, will have the necessary work completed and assess the member for the expenses incurred. Any movable items found or reported to be at a Resident’s home site following their departure, will be picked-up and properly disposed of in the NLYH refuse container. Charges for corporation employees doing caretaker work are $40.00 per man hour worked with a minimum charge of $200.00 per occurrence.
Emergency Preparedness
In the event of an emergency, natural or otherwise, it is important to make sure that your basic needs are being met and that you are safe. The most effective way of to do this is to have a plan in place. It’s very easy to panic during an emergency; being mentally and physically prepared may help to minimize that feeling of panic and enable you to keep yourself and family calm, cool, collected, and most importantly, safe.

Don’t overlook the fact that with summer rains come the potential for severe thunderstorms with damaging winds and the possibility of tornadoes.
